•  Hear and see this book read aloud on YouTube

Discussion topics for before reading:
•  Do a picture walk -- what do you think this book is about?
•  Do princesses or princes wear hiking boots?
•  Does your family have a special name for you other than your real name?

Discussion topics for during/after reading:
•  What makes princesses or princes special? Can regular kids be princesses/princes?
•  Do you get dirty? Climb trees? Walk in the rain? Like vegetables? What else?
•  What do you think the dog?s name is? Why?

Craft ideas:
•  Make a chain of daisies for a princess, or a crown for a prince
•  Bring ahead option: bring aluminum foil to make mirrors that can be decorated with scenes from the book.

Special activities:
•  Play "Mirror." Have children pair up and stand facing each other. They should trade off being the mirror and being the leader

*Note: These craft ideas are just suggestions. You can use them, but you don't have to use them. You can expand upon them, or add your own twist. Remember, though, that the focus of your time should not be on the development and execution of a craft; the focus should be on the read-aloud and the enjoyment of the book!
