Synopsis: (from the publisher) Featuring Todd Parr's trademark bold, bright colors and silly scenes, this book embraces difference in a unique way. Deceptively simple in appearance, It's OK to Be Different cleverly delivers its important messages of acceptance, understanding, and confidence in a child-friendly package.

Discussion topics for before reading:
•  This book is great for a picture walk, looking at the colors (what color is this?), and the actions (what do you think this person is doing?)
•  Look at the person next to you. What is the same? What is different?
•  Are you missing any teeth? How many?

Discussion topics for during/after reading:
•  Do you know someone with glasses? Big ears? No hair? Etc...
•  What else is ok?

Craft ideas:
•  Draw a self-portrait button, volunteers write, "it's ok to be me" on it.
•  Make ahead option: xerox pages from the book to color

Special activities:
•  Play simon says: dance; act mad; act happy; eat mac and cheese in the tub; make a wish

*Note: These craft ideas are just suggestions. You can use them, but you don't have to use them. You can expand upon them, or add your own twist. Remember, though, that the focus of your time should not be on the development and execution of a craft; the focus should be on the read-aloud and the enjoyment of the book!
