Synopsis: Maya has always wanted a horse or an older brother, but her traveling Grandaddy brings her an Alaskan pig instead ("Something that will teach you fun and sharing").

Discussion topics for during/after reading:
•  What is a friend?
•  What do you learn from your friends?
•  Do you have friends that do things you like or don?t like? How do you react?
•  Do you have any pets? Are they your friends?

Craft ideas:
•  Make pig ears and noses and big sombreros.
•  Make a card from Maya to Julius.

*Note: These craft ideas are just suggestions. You can use them, but you don't have to use them. You can expand upon them, or add your own twist. Remember, though, that the focus of your time should not be on the development and execution of a craft; the focus should be on the read-aloud and the enjoyment of the book!
