Synopsis: Tony thinks it's dumb to have a picnic in October every year. He thinks it's dumb to go all the way to Liberty Island for a birthday, too. It's too far. And it's too cold. And it's just plain embarrassing. But that's what he thinks before he helps the lady who can't speak English-and before he begins to understand what the Statue of Liberty means to Grandma.

Discussion topics: To be posted soon ...

Craft ideas:
•  Make Statue of Liberty crowns and torches.
•  Make your own birthday card for the Statue of Liberty

*Note: These craft ideas are just suggestions. You can use them, but you don't have to use them. You can expand upon them, or add your own twist. Remember, though, that the focus of your time should not be on the development and execution of a craft; the focus should be on the read-aloud and the enjoyment of the book!
