Synopsis: In this charming African story, Saruni saves money so he can buy a bicycle to help his mother carry vegetables and firewood to sell. When his father gives him a bicycle, he puts the money toward a cart to help his mother.

Discussion topics: To be posted soon ...

Craft ideas:
•  What would you save money for? Why? Draw a picture of that. How long would it take you to save it?
•  Retell the story from the other characters' points of view.
•  What kinds of things do you do to help your family more than just helping you? Make a book that tells that story.

*Note: These craft ideas are just suggestions. You can use them, but you don't have to use them. You can expand upon them, or add your own twist. Remember, though, that the focus of your time should not be on the development and execution of a craft; the focus should be on the read-aloud and the enjoyment of the book!
