Synopsis:
Nellie loves her family's annual trip over the Black Mountains to their beach house. Every year her two brothers compete to see who will first see the ocean through the mountain passes. Illustrated in softly flowing colors, this is the story of a little girl who sees the beauty of the world, not with her eyes, but with her mind and her heart.

Close your eyes and pretend that you are blind. What is your favorite place to go with your friends or family? Can you describe it? Draw a picture.

Have the children pair up. Have one describe a favorite place using all senses--not just sight. Have the other draw that place based on the description (they can use words to indicate the other senses if they can't draw it). Then, switch.

You can use them, but you don't have to use them.
You can expand upon them, or add your own twist.
Remember, though, that the focus of your time should
not be on the development and execution of a craft;
the focus should be on the read-aloud and the
enjoyment of the book!
