Dear Friends of Reading to Kids,

Classroom reminder poster with arrow pointed to July and August reading club dates

Our August 9th "Back to School Fun" reading clubs are just 10 days away, we were able to open a few more volunteer spots!

If you find they are all taken, though, please keep checking www.readingtokids.org this week and next week for any recent cancellations!

(If you signed up for the reading clubs but can't join us, please cancel your RSVP now so that another volunteer can read with us.)

Scroll down to see how we especially need more of our experienced volunteers to help as Training Coordinators, Check-In Helpers, & Site Operations Helpers.

These August reading clubs will be smaller again because the schools will still be on the final weekend of their summer break. We'll also be giving school supplies to the kids that morning!

NINE MORE LEADERS WANTED:
TRAINING COORDINATORS,
CHECK-IN HELPERS,
AND SITE OPERATIONS HELPERS

Our summer reading clubs such as August 9th are the perfect time for those who have volunteered with us a few times recently to step into and learn any of our important Operations roles - all training very pleasantly provided!

We can't guarantee you'll get to read that Saturday, but please e-mail us at info@readingtokids.org if you can volunteer for any of the following roles:

- Volunteer Training Coordinators at Esperanza, Mac. Park, Magnolia, or Politi
- Check-in Helper at Magnolia, Politi, or White
- Site Operations Helper at Alta Loma or Mac. Park - discover the joy of being a Site Coordinator!

If your school is full and you are an experienced volunteer with us, let us know if you can fill any of the above roles and we'll respond about adding in your RSVP.

BACK-TO-SCHOOL SUPPLIES NEEDED
FOR AUGUST 9TH

Back to School supplies

We want to give school supplies to each kid who attends the August 9th clubs.

We already have most of what we want, but we need your help purchasing from our Amazon wish list a few more items - especially blue bags for the kids to carry home their school supplies that morning!

The above wish list indicates the priority of the items we are hoping to receive from you, and it will update automatically to show only those items we still need.

Please email us at info@readingtokids.org or call us at (310) 479-7455 if you have purchased for us any of the items on our wish list. Let's make the first day of school exciting for the kids!

READING TO KIDS AMBASSADORS
NEEDED TO HELP KICK OFF
THE NEW SCHOOL YEAR!

Volunteers at Charles White Elementary

With the 2025-26 school year beginning August 14th, we will have many opportunities for you to help us promote Reading to Kids at our partner schools as a Reading to Kids Ambassador.

There are three different ways you can help: Kindergarten Orientations, Teacher Breakfast Deliveries, and Back-to-School Nights.

We'll supply everything you need, including what to say at the Kindergarten Orientations. Although it's great if you can speak Spanish (even a little), all of our parent materials are bilingual, and there's always someone who can translate for you at the school.

These events set the course for the rest of the year and are a wonderful way to interact with the kids, parents, and teachers.

If you have volunteered as a reader with us before and are interested in being an Ambassador, please e-mail us at info@readingtokids.org or call (310) 479-7455.

THANK YOU MUNGER, TOLLES, & OLSON

Munger, Toles, & Olson logo

Please join us in thanking Munger, Tolles & Olson for their recent $4,000 grant award from their MTO Paul Davis Fund! Working together, we are sharing your enthusiasm for literacy and stories with the children we serve!

Munger, Tolles & Olson employee Lauren Kuhn, one of our volunteer Site Coordinators at Esperanza Elementary, helped us secure this grant through her employer again.

Perhaps your employer also has grants or other ways of recognizing your volunteering with Reading to Kids. If so, please contact us at info@readingtokids.org and we'll help you apply!

PLEASE HELP US FIND
BINGO PRIZES

Drag Queen Bingo!

Our next Legendary Bingo fundraiser at Hamburger Mary's in West Hollywood will be on October 21st! Please help us gather prizes for auctions and bingo winners that night!

To help you get started, here is information about Reading to Kids to share with potential donors, as well as a donation form for them to complete.

We especially enjoy awarding gift certificates, amusement park and theater tickets, gift bags, and autographed items! Anything unique is great, too!

If you work at or have a connection with products or services to offer, please help us by asking for a donation to our events.

You may have gift cards you haven't used which would make excellent prizes if you'd like to donate them to us! E-mail us at info@readingtokids.org to arrange mailing them to us!

Thanks in advance for your help with the above, and we hope you can sign up to read with us on August 9th!

Sincerely,

Charlie Orchard, Yancy Rodriguez Coe, & Anna Davies
