October 31, 2024

Dear Friends of Reading to Kids,

Happy Halloween to you!

At our October reading clubs, Esperanza Site Coordinator Mark May had a hilarious costume for the kids and volunteers there - he dressed as Esperanza principal Brad Rumble, who is an enthusiastic bird watcher!

A drawing of a school house representing Tenth St. Elementary

We are thrilled to announce that at our November 9th reading clubs we will begin reading at Tenth Street Elementary, our first new school since April 2016!

Please help inspire students at Tenth St. Elem. with a love of reading by signing up to volunteer for this momentous occasion! This is your chance to be at a first reading club at one of our schools!

Specifically, we are looking for Site Coordinators, Training Coordinators, GLCs, a Bagel Runner and/or Food Runner, and experienced volunteers to start at Tenth St. Elem. If you are interested in getting more involved, please contact us at info@readingtokids.org.

IMPORTANT: If you are already signed up for another school for November 9th and you want to switch to Tenth St. Elem., please contact us as soon as you can at info@readingtokids.org.

We will also need a coffee pot that can brew at least 20 cups of coffee at a time. If you can donate one, please let us know!

HELP! 23 MORE READERS
NEEDED IN 9 DAYS
FOR NOV. 9TH READING CLUBS!

Reading to Kids at Magnolia Elem.

Now that we are at 8 schools, we urgently need another 23 readers to join us for our November 9th reading clubs.

Here are 5 super-helpful things you can do right now!

  1. If you haven't already, please visit our website now and sign up.

  2. Share and join our November 9th reading club event to let your friends know the fun you'll be up to on the 9th!

  3. Whether or not you can volunteer on the 9th, Tweet @readingtokids, post, and message your friends and followers. Here's a sample post you can use:

    1. "My favorite volunteer organization, Reading to Kids, is expanding to an 8th partner-school and is looking for more volunteers for their reading clubs on Saturday, Nov. 9th. The theme is "Seasons & the Natural World", and the kids are eager to hear great books read aloud to them.

Join me at ### Elementary School for a fun, heartwarming morning of reading to elementary school kids near downtown LA. To join me, sign up online today at www.readingtokids.org."

If you write your own post, please be sure to include the following two things:

    - The reading clubs are Saturday morning, November 9th, near downtown LA
    - Volunteers must sign up online by 3pm on Friday, Nov. 8th, at www.readingtokids.org

If you have people in mind who you think would really like to read with us, tag them in your post. It will alert them to the reading clubs and show up in their friends' news feeds.

  4. Copy from our easy message template at http://www.readingtokids.org/News/SampleVolRecruit.pdf to encourage people you know to sign up to read with us!

  5. Print out this flyer at http://readingtokids.org/ProMaterials/VolunteerTearOffFlyer.pdf and post it somewhere others will see it. Make it a personal and fun social event by including the school at which you'll be reading or encouraging them to read at your favorite of our eight partner schools!
November is our college spirit month, when we count the college logos volunteers wear that morning to see which college shows the most spirit. Will you recruit the most volunteers from your school and win the competition?
