Dear Friends of Reading to Kids,
Our "Arts & Creativity" reading clubs are this Saturday, and we probably need a few more readers!
Please
click here to sign up today, or keep checking through tomorrow until 3pm, since we always have a few cancelations the days before each reading club.
(If you
have signed up and can't make it after all,
please cancel your RSVP online immediately to make room for another volunteer.)
OPERATIONS VOLUNTEERS NEEDED THIS SATURDAY
Have you volunteered with us a few times recently? Then this Saturday would be a great time to step into any of our vital Operations roles - all training very pleasantly provided!
Please e-mail us at
info@readingtokids.org if you can volunteer for any of the following roles this Saturday:
- GLC at Alta Loma (1st or 2nd)
- Training Coordinator at Alta Loma
- Check-in Helper at Magnolia
Or, if you want to help in other ways (Curriculum, Marketing, etc.), and have volunteered with us three or more times,
consider
joining our
Taskforce.

FIVE MORE RUNNERS NEEDED FOR THE 2025 LA MARATHON, 13.1 MILE CHARITY CHALLENGE, OR LA 5K!
Do you know any runners? Are you a
runner? Please forward this email to them
and ask them to join
Team Reading to Kids in the 2025 Los
Angeles Marathon or 13.1 Mile Charity Challenge on Sunday,
March 16th!
This is our 11th time running the marathon, and we're looking for five Charity Challenge runners (the last 13.1 miles of the course) and more full marathon runners to join us in one of the best marathons in the country.
If either of those distances is too daunting, you can join us in the LA 5K (that's just 3.1 miles) near Dodger Stadium the day before the marathon on Saturday, March 15, 2024.
If you or a runner you know is interested in
becoming one of our fundraising runners or
creating a fundraising team, please email
Chris Martin at
marathon@readingtokids.org!
IMPORTANT NOTE: To register to run
on behalf of Reading to Kids, you
MUST receive from us a special web address
to use when registering on the Los Angeles Marathon website.

JOIN US FOR OUR BEACH DAY SUNDAY, SEPT. 22ND, NOON - 8PM
Time for more fun in the sun! Spend the day at Dockweiler Beach with your fellow Reading to Kids volunteers on Sunday, September 22nd, from Noon - 8pm. Let us know you are coming at our Facebook event!
The main entrance address is 12000 Vista del Mar, Los Angeles, CA 90293. We will be near Lifeguard Station #57, and our precise location on the beach will be posted that day to our Facebook page at facebook.com/readingtokids and on our X (formerly Twitter) at x.com/readingtokids )
We'll be soaking up the last bit of summer with sun, sand, plenty of refreshments, and games! Just look for the large blue canopy tent!
Please feel free to bring:
- Refreshments (and any food/beverage supplies you'll need)
- Towels
- Sunscreen! (don’t forget!)
- Anything else to enjoy the day! (See below for exceptions)
There’s a great bike path that runs through Dockweiler up through Marina Del Rey, all the way to the Palisades. Dogs are NOT allowed on the beach, but they are allowed in the parking lots and along the bike path, as long as they are on leash.
The large beach parking lots charge $13 on weekends, although you may be able to find limited street parking in the vicinity. That day we’ll be posting a GPS pinpoint to help find us on our Facebook page and on Twitter, and you can just look for the tent, too.
We must follow the beach rules:
NO Animals
NO Cooking
NO Diving
|
NO Loud Music
NO Glass containers
NO Solicitation, sales, or advertising
|
NO Alcohol
NO Smoking
NO Littering
|
See you there!
