Dear Friends of Reading to Kids,

Even though the kids were on the last weekend of their summer break, last Saturday 218 kids, 131 volunteers, 62 parents, and 21 teachers & staff helped to make our August 10th reading clubs a success!

Kindergartners and 3rd graders enjoyed reading dinosaur-themed books, then worked on crafts of their own based on We Don't Eat our Classmates! A Penelope Rex Book and Ivy and Bean Break the Fossil Record!

SEPTEMBER 14TH READING CLUBS

Please be sure to sign up for the next reading clubs!   Click here to submit your RSVP for our "Arts & Creativity" reading clubs on September 14th.

We will need 180+ volunteers for these September reading clubs, so please sign up early and recruit your friends, co-workers, and family members as volunteers!
Here are four easy ways to do that:

TAKE ON A LARGER VOLUNTEER ROLE
ON SEPT. 14TH

Volunteers at Charles White Elementary

We urgently need experienced volunteers to take on more leadership with us by helping train new and returning volunteers, being a GLC, or especially being a Site Operations Helper at any of our schools.

If you can help in any of those roles, please e-mail us at info@readingtokids.org to help create wonderful reading clubs!

READING TO KIDS AMBASSADORS
NEEDED TO HELP KICK OFF
THE NEW SCHOOL YEAR

Volunteers at Charles White Elementary

With the new school year started this week, we have many opportunities for you to help us promote Reading to Kids at our partner schools as a Reading to Kids Ambassador.

There are three unique ways you can help:

  • Classroom Walk-Throughs
  • Teacher Breakfast Deliveries
  • Back-to-School Nights

We'll supply everything you need, including what to say at the Back-to-School Nights. Although it's great if you can speak Spanish (even a little), all our parent materials are bilingual, and there's always someone who can translate for you at the school.

These events set the course for the rest of the year and are a wonderful way to interact with the kids, parents, and teachers.

If you have volunteered as a reader with us recently and can help as an Ambassador, please e-mail us at info@readingtokids.org or call (310) 479-7455.

BACK-TO-SCHOOL SUPPLIES
WANTED FOR 2025

Back to School supplies

We gave so many school supplies to each kid who attended last Saturday's clubs that we need to re-stock for next August!

If you happen to have the following laying around (or want to pick some up at back-to-school sales), these are the specific items we are looking for:

NEW
Spiral notebooks
Colorful 2-pocket folders
3-ring binders
3-ring pencil pouches
Large erasers
Mechanical pencils (especially "fun" ones)

Stores such as Office Depot, Staples, and Target are promoting great back-to-school specials. If you're going to be there anyway, why not pick up a folder or ten for the kids?

Please email us at info@readingtokids.org or call us at (310) 479-7455 if you have any supplies to donate!
