Dear Friends of Reading to Kids,

Square flyer of our August 10th reading clubs

The kids return to school on Monday, which means our August 10th "Back to School Fun" reading clubs are this Saturday - and we might need a few more volunteer readers.

Please click here to see if we have openings today or tomorrow until 3pm, since we always have a few cancelations the days before each reading club.

These August reading clubs are a little smaller because the kids are still on their summer break.

(If you have signed up and can't make it after all, please cancel your RSVP online immediately to make room for another volunteer.)

OPERATIONS VOLUNTEERS
NEEDED THIS SATURDAY

Have you volunteered with us a few times recently? Then this Saturday would be a great time to step into any of our vital Operations roles - all training very pleasantly provided!

Please e-mail us at info@readingtokids.org if you can volunteer for any of the following roles this Saturday:

- GLC at Politi (1st)
- Training Coordinator at MacArthur Park or Politi
- Check-in Helper at Esperanza, Magnolia, or White

Or, if you want to help in other ways (Curriculum, Marketing, etc.), and have volunteered with us three or more times, consider joining our Taskforce.

READING TO KIDS AMBASSADORS
NEEDED TO HELP KICK OFF
THE NEW SCHOOL YEAR

Volunteers at Charles White Elementary

With the new school year beginning Monday, we have many opportunities for you to help us promote Reading to Kids at our partner schools as a Reading to Kids Ambassador.

There are three unique ways you can help:

  • Kindergarten Orientations
  • Teacher Breakfast Deliveries
  • Back-to-School Nights

We'll supply everything you need, including what to say at the Kindergarten Orientations. Although it's great if you can speak Spanish (even a little), all of our parent materials are bilingual, and there's always someone who can translate for you at the school.

These events set the course for the rest of the year and are a wonderful way to interact with the kids, parents, and teachers.

If you have volunteered at our reading clubs before and can help as an Ambassador, please e-mail us at info@readingtokids.org or call (310) 479-7455.

3 MORE COMPUTERS OR TABLETS WANTED
TO GIVE TO KIDS!

At this Saturday's reading clubs we would love to give away a computer or iPad/tablet to one lucky kid at each school.

If you or your employer have any working computers that are less than 6 years old running Windows 8 or later, or any Macintosh computers less than 7 years old, or any iPads or similar tablets, we can give them to deserving kids!

We especially need working computers (CPUs), whether or not they come with monitors, keyboards, etc. Please email us at info@readingtokids.org to help make a kid very happy!

THANK YOU, CIARA!

Ciara Kelly
(Click on the above image to see it full size)

Please join us in thanking Ciara Kelly for her remarkable 12 months of dedicated service to Reading to Kids!

Tomorrow is Ciara's last day of her AmeriCorps VISTA | Volunteer Corps Member service with us. Ciara's positive energy, efficiency, and drive helped all of us enjoy Reading to Kids' 25th year of existence!

Ciara, all of us at Reading to Kids will very much miss working with you in the office and at schools, and we wish you the very best as you take on your new position at L.A. Works!

PLEASE HELP US FIND MORE
BINGO PRIZES

Reading to Kids' Legendary Bingo fundraiser at Hamburger Mary's in West Hollywood

Our next Legendary Bingo fundraiser at Hamburger Mary's in West Hollywood will be on October 23rd, and we need your help gathering more prizes for auctions and bingo winners that night!

To help you get started, here is information about Reading to Kids to share with potential donors, as well as a donation form for them to complete.

We especially enjoy awarding gift certificates, amusement park and theater tickets, gift bags, and autographed items! Anything unique is great, too!

If you work at or have a connection with products or services to offer, please help us by asking for a donation to our events.

You may have gift cards you haven't used which would make excellent prizes if you'd like to donate them to us! E-mail us at info@readingtokids.org to arrange mailing them to us!

Thanks, and please let us know if you can help for this Saturday's "Back to School Fun" reading clubs!

Sincerely,
