Dear Friends of Reading to Kids,

At last month's July 13th reading clubs the Kindergartners had so much fun creating penguin crafts after enjoying the book Penguin Problems that here are even more photos we received of their crafts!

Our August 10th "Back to School Fun" reading clubs are just 10 days away and are probably already full, though please keep checking our website this week and next week for any recent cancellations!

(If you signed up for the reading clubs but can't join us, please cancel your RSVP now so that another volunteer can read with us.)

We are particularly looking for more of our experienced volunteers to help as Training Coordinators, Check-In Helpers, & Site Operations Helpers.

You can read about those roles here and email info@readingtokids.org if you want to help in any, even if your school is full!

These August reading clubs are a little smaller because the schools will still be on the final weekend of their summer break.

Or, if you want to help in other ways (Curriculum, Marketing, etc.), and have volunteered with us three or more times, consider joining our Taskforce.

INTRODUCING OUR NEWEST
PROGRAM COORDINATOR
ANNA DAVIES!

Anna Davies
Anna Davies

This week we were delighted to welcome to Reading to Kids our newest Program Coordinator, Anna Davies!

Working alongside Program Coordinator Yancy Rodriguez Coe, Anna will focus on increasing the number of kids and teachers who attend our reading clubs, coordinating the monthly reading clubs at all of our schools, and volunteer recruitment.

Anna earned her BA in International Development Studies at UCLA, where she also minored in Spanish. She previously worked as a Development Assistant at LoveJustice, was a Frontline Ambassador at the Hammer Museum, and managed the crisis center reception desk at a community-based nonprofit in her native London. She has volunteered for a wide range of nonprofit organizations in Los Angeles, Zimbabwe, and London.

Please welcome Anna as you meet her at the reading clubs, our school campuses, and in our offices!

BE A READING TO KIDS AMBASSADOR!

Volunteers at Charles White Elementary

With the 2024-25 school year beginning August 12th, we will have many opportunities for you to help us promote Reading to Kids at our partner schools as a Reading to Kids Ambassador.

There are three different ways you can help: Kindergarten Orientations, Teacher Breakfast Deliveries, and Back-to-School Nights.

We'll supply everything you need, including what to say at the Kindergarten Orientations. Although it's great if you can speak Spanish (even a little), all of our parent materials are bilingual, and there's always someone who can translate for you at the school.

These events set the course for the rest of the year and are a wonderful way to interact with the kids, parents, and teachers.

If you have volunteered at our reading clubs before and are interested in being an Ambassador, please e-mail us at info@readingtokids.org or call (310) 479-7455.

5 MORE COMPUTERS OR TABLETS WANTED
TO GIVE TO KIDS!

At our August reading clubs we would love to give away a computer or iPad/tablet to one lucky kid at each school.

If you or your employer have any working computers that are less than 6 years old running Windows 8 or later, or any Macintosh computers less than 7 years old, or any iPads or similar tablets, we can give them to deserving kids!

We especially need working computers (CPUs), whether or not they come with monitors, keyboards, etc. Please email us at info@readingtokids.org to help make a kid very happy!

PLEASE HELP US FIND MORE
BINGO PRIZES

Reading to Kids' Legendary Bingo fundraiser at Hamburger Mary's in West Hollywood

Our next Legendary Bingo fundraiser at Hamburger Mary's in West Hollywood will be on October 23rd, and we need your help gathering more prizes for auctions and bingo winners that night!

To help you get started, here is information about Reading to Kids to share with potential donors, as well as a donation form for them to complete.

We especially enjoy awarding gift certificates, amusement park and theater tickets, gift bags, and autographed items! Anything unique is great, too!

If you work at or have a connection with products or services to offer, please help us by asking for a donation to our events.

You may have gift cards you haven't used which would make excellent prizes if you'd like to donate them to us! E-mail us at info@readingtokids.org to arrange mailing them to us!

Thanks in advance for your help with the above!

Sincerely,

Charlie Orchard, Yancy Rodriguez Coe, Ciara Kelly, & Anna Davies
