Dear Friends of Reading to Kids,

58 MORE READERS NEEDED FOR SEPT. 9TH -
SIGN UP AND HELP RECRUIT

Reading to Kids at White Elem.

Our partner schools are back in session, which means we need another 58 volunteers for September 9th!

Please try these five easy steps to help us recruit your friends, co-workers, and family members today:

  • Publish to your Facebook feed and share with your friends our September 9th Facebook event to encourage them to volunteer!

  • If you haven't already, please visit our website now and sign up.

  • Whether or not you can volunteer on the 9th, Tweet @readingtokids, post, and message your friends and followers. Here's a sample post you can use:

"My favorite volunteer organization, Reading to Kids, is looking for more volunteers for their September 9th reading clubs. The theme is "Back to School Fun", and every participant will be encouraged to wear masks while indoors. Join me at ### Elementary School for a fantastic morning of reading to elementary school kids near downtown LA. To join me, sign up online today at www.readingtokids.org."

If you write your own post, please be sure to include the following two things:

    - The reading clubs are Saturday morning, September 9th, near downtown LA
    - Volunteers must sign up online by 3pm on Friday, Sept. 8th, at www.readingtokids.org

If you have people in mind who you think would really like to read with us, tag them in your post. It will alert them to the reading clubs and show up in their friends' news feeds.

  • Copy from our message template at http://www.readingtokids.org/News/SampleVolRecruit.pdf to encourage people you know to sign up to read with us!

  • Print out this flyer at http://readingtokids.org/ProMaterials/VolunteerTearOffFlyer.pdf and post it somewhere others will see it. Make it a personal and fun social event by including the school at which you'll be reading or encouraging them to read at your favorite of our eight partner schools!
Set up a group to volunteer with us
E-mail us at info@readingtokids.org and we'll get your group added into our volunteer group list!

READING TO KIDS AMBASSADORS
NEEDED TO HELP KICK OFF
THE NEW SCHOOL YEAR

Volunteers at Charles White Elementary

With the 2023-24 school year started, we have many opportunities for you to help us promote Reading to Kids at our partner schools as a Reading to Kids Ambassador.

There are three different ways you can help:

  • Teacher Breakfast Deliveries
  • Back-to-School-Nights
  • Classroom Visits next week

We'll supply everything you need, including what to say if parents ask questions and to the kids during classroom visits (explained below). Although it's great if you can speak Spanish (even a little), all of our parent materials are bilingual, and there's always someone who can translate for you at the school.

Next week we need ambassadors to visit any of our schools for an hour during the school day to visit each classroom to encourage kids to come to the September 9th reading clubs held on their campuses. Reply to this email if you can be an ambassador for an hour that week!

Our Ambassadors always have a great time with the kids and parents - come find out why!

If you can be an Ambassador, please e-mail us at info@readingtokids.org or call (310) 479-7455.

Please join us in thanking Diego Cruz for his past 10 months of dedicated service to Reading to Kids!

Yesterday was Diego's last day of his Public Allies AmeriCorps Apprentice service with us, and we could not have had such a successful return to in-person, on campus reading clubs without him!

Diego, we at Reading to Kids will miss working with you in the office and at schools, and we wish you the very best as you work with your next organization through AmeriCorps!

Thanks, and we hope to see many of our supporters tonight!
