August 2, 2018

Dear Friends of Reading to Kids,

August has arrived, and on the 11th we're celebrating creativity at our Arts & Entertainment reading clubs!

We'll also have movie-related prizes to give away to each kid, as well as a refurbished computer or tablet to give to one lucky kid at each school!

All volunteer spots are probably full, but please continue to check our website for openings. If you are signed up but know you can't join us, cancel your RSVP so that someone else may take your place!

These smaller summer reading clubs are the perfect time for those who have volunteered with us a few times recently to step into and learn any of our important Operations roles - all training very pleasantly provided!

Please e-mail us at info@readingtokids.org if you can volunteer for any of the following roles:

GLC at any school
Training Coordinator at Alta Loma, Gratts, Los Angeles, Magnolia, or White
Check-in helper at Alta Loma
Food Runner at Los Angeles, Mac. Park, or Politi
Help! Site Coordinator at any school (August is a great month to learn this role!)

If your school is full and you are an experienced volunteer with us, let us know if you can fill any of the above roles and we'll happily add in your RSVP.

Oh - and if you missed seeing it on our Twitter feed or Facebook page last week, check out this article our intern Kaitlyn Tang wrote about us!

READING TO KIDS AMBASSADORS NEEDED
TO HELP KICK OFF THE NEW SCHOOL YEAR

Volunteers at Charles White Elementary

The new school year starts two weeks from today on August 14th, which means during these next several weeks we are invited to promote Reading to Kids at our partner schools!

There are three different ways you can help: Kindergarten Orientations, Teacher Breakfast Deliveries, and Back-to-School-Nights.

We'll supply everything you need, including what to say at the Kindergarten Orientations. Although it's great if you can speak Spanish (even a little), all of our parent materials are bilingual, and there's always someone who can translate for you at the school.

Our Ambassadors always have a great time with the kids and parents - come find out why!

If you can be an Ambassador, please e-mail us at info@readingtokids.org or call (310) 479-7455.

BACK-TO-SCHOOL SUPPLIES NEEDED
FOR SEPTEMBER

Back to School supplies

Looking ahead to our September 8th reading clubs, we are gathering school supplies to give away to each kid who attends in September.

If you happen to have the following laying around (or want to pick some up at back-to-school sales), these are the specific items we are looking for:

NEW
Spiral notebooks
Colorful 2-pocket folders
3-ring binders
3-ring pencil pouches
Large erasers

Stores such as Office Depot, Staples, and Target are promoting great back-to-school specials. If you're going to be there anyway, why not pick up a folder or ten for the kids?

Please email us at info@readingtokids.org or call us at (310) 479-7455 if you have any supplies to donate. September is always a fun month, and made much more so with the giveaways!
