Our May 13th reading clubs are just two days away! We still need a few volunteers, so sign up now to spend the day before Mother's Day reading aloud to children. Share our May 13th Facebook event with all of your friends to help us get even more volunteers.

Also, this weekend's clubs will be the last before the school semester ends and all of the delightful children you read to over the past year move on up to the next grade. However, we will still have summer reading clubs on June 13, July 11, and August 8 to encourage the students to keep reading throughout summer vacation.

We also need our more experienced volunteers to help train new volunteers, be a GLC or Check-In Helper, or act as a Site Coordinator at any of our schools. This is a great way for you to step up at our reading clubs!

It is our pleasure to welcome our new Program Coordinator, Jessica Brown-Clark!

Jessica is a Pepperdine University graduate, where she earned her BA in Psychology. Since then she has been an education advocate for students with disabilities and a volunteer with Reading to Kids, where you may have seen her at Politi, Los Angeles, White, or Magnolia. She previously worked in the Pepperdine Volunteer Center and for America Reads as a Teacher's Assistant.

Please introduce yourselves to Jessica as you meet her at the reading clubs, committee meetings, El Cholo, and our offices.

Reading to Kids is hiring a Literacy Coordinator through AmeriCorps for a 12 month position starting in August! The position is posted on our website, where you can read it by clicking on the Literacy Coordinator button below Latest News.

Please also share the above link to the position with anyone you think would be a good fit, especially if they have volunteered with us as readers or other roles.

The drinks are strong, the drag queen bingo is "R" rated, and seating is limited, so be sure to reserve your seat in advance!

Legendary Bingo is very popular and there is limited seating available. Plan to arrive before 7:00 p.m. to get a seat. We strongly suggest making a reservation (you must have a party of 4 or more) at Hamburger Mary's to ensure your seat.

HARRY POTTER 3 AT THE HOLLYWOOD BOWL
WITH READING TO KIDS ON JULY 8TH

On Saturday, July 8th (after our July reading clubs), join fellow Reading to Kids volunteers as we watch a screening of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban at the Hollywood Bowl - with the soundtrack performed live by the L.A. Philharmonic!

We'll start at 5pm with a picnic in area 13 across the street from the Bowl. At 7:30pm we'll head to our seats towards the back of the bowl in section V1. The movie begins at 8pm.
