Dear Friends of Reading to Kids,

We are getting really excited for the September 12th reading clubs. We're expecting at least 1,200 kids, so we need hundreds more volunteers.

Please help us recruit 298 more volunteers by joining our September 12th Facebook event so your friends will see that you will be attending.

Then please Tweet @readingtokids, post to Facebook, and email your friends, letting them know that we still need more volunteers.

Make sure to tell your friends and family:

1) The reading clubs are the morning of September 12th near Downtown LA
2) Volunteers must sign up online at www.readingtokids.org

3) The school at which you will be reading

You can also help us by printing out this flyer and posting it at coffee shops, the gym, your office, or favorite community bulletin board.

BACK-TO-SCHOOL SUPPLIES NEEDED

We are once again excited to give away school supplies at the September 12th reading clubs. Last September was such a successful month that our supplies this year are greatly depleted.

If you happen to have the following laying around (or want to pick some up at back-to-school sales), these are the specific items we are looking for:

NEW
Spiral notebooks
Binder folders
3-ring binders
3-ring pencil pouches

Stores such as Office Depot, Staples and Target are promoting great back-to-school specials. If you're going to be there anyway, why not pick up a folder or ten?

Please email us at info@readingtokids.org or call us at (310) 479-7455 if you have any supplies to donate. September is always a fun month, and made much more so with the giveaways!

BE A READING TO KIDS AMBASSADOR

This is the first week of school, which means during these next few weeks we are invited to promote Reading to Kids at our partner schools!

You can help out at Kindergarten Orientations, Back-to-School-Nights, and classroom walk-throughs.

We'll supply everything you need, including what to say at the Kindergarten Orientations. Although it's great if you can speak Spanish, it is not necessary. All of our parent materials are bilingual and there's always someone who can translate for you at the school.

Our Ambassadors so far are having a great time with the kids and parents - come find out why!

If you are interested in being an Ambassador, please email us at info@readingtokids.org or call (310) 479-7455.

THANK YOU TO OUR SUMMER INTERNS!

Did you know that much of the smooth-running logistics of our events and monthly reading clubs is made possible by a small, dedicated group of office interns?

If you have ever been impressed with how professional our materials and organizational techniques were over the past three months, you can thank our two fabulous summer interns, Courtney Shipton and Luis Romero. They volunteered many hours of their summer vacation at the Reading to Kids offices!

We could not have put on such enjoyable summer reading clubs without their sunny personalities and creative work, and we wish them all the best as they head back to their respective colleges!

Thanks, and we hope to see you and your friends at our September 12th reading clubs!

Sincerely,

Charlie Orchard, Nicole Rodriguez, and Alexandra Babiarz
