Dear Friends of Reading to Kids,

Last Saturday, 443 kids, 272 volunteers, 32 parents, and 22 teachers & staff helped to make our January 10th reading clubs a success!

The schools were still on their Winter Recess last week, so that was a lot of kids willing to wake early and come hear a great story! In addition to receiving a free book, one lucky student at each of our seven schools also went home with a refurbished computer. They could not stop smiling!

START RECRUITING FOR FEBRUARY 14TH

Sign up for the next reading clubs! Click here to submit your RSVP for our "Friendship & Family" reading clubs on February 14 (yes, that's Valentine's Day).

Please take a moment to also join our February 14th Facebook Event and share with friends a lovely way to spend Valentine's Day morning.

READING TO KIDS GOES HIKING THIS SATURDAY

Hike to the Hollywood Sign and see the Bat Cave with fellow volunteers this Saturday, January 17.

Drive beyond 2633 Canyon Dr., Los Angeles, CA - we will be meeting at the parking lots at the end of the road at 10:00 a.m.

The hike is moderate, so bring your friends, both furry and human! You can RSVP and see who else is going on our Facebook event or Meetup event.

MUSICIANS WANTED

We are looking for musicians to perform at each of our seven partner schools at our March 14th reading clubs. In the past we've had everything from Korean drum troupes to electric violin players to marching bands!

Quetzal Guerrero performs at Magnolia Elementary on March 9th, 2013

If you or someone you know is interested in sharing the gift of music with our students and volunteers, email us at inforeadingtokids.org.

CURRICULUM COMMITTEE POTLUCK

Want to play a part in creating each month's crafts and discussion questions? Become a part of our Curriculum Committee! Each month the teachers choose the read-aloud books and then the Curriculum Committee prepares the questions and craft guides to help bring them to life.

The potluck will be on Sunday, February 8 at noon. Details on where the potluck will be held are forthcoming. We will update you with further information (including the location) as it becomes available. This is a wonderful opportunity to experience what the committee does and decide whether you'd like to join!

Please email inforeadingtokids.org if you are interested in attending.

SEARCHING FOR SILENT AUCTION ITEMS

We've begun planning this year's fundraising events including our annual comedy show/silent auction and Legendary Bingo night. We need your help gathering donated prizes!

Our events are more fun and raise more money if we have great prizes to award, raffle, and/or auction.

In the past we have had gift certificates, amusement park and theater tickets, gift bags, autographed items, and others. For ideas, click here to see last year's auction items. If you work at or have a connection with products or services to offer, please help us by asking for a donation to our events.

If you have any questions, please contact the Reading to Kids office. To help you get started, here is information about Reading to Kids which can be shared with potential donors, as well as a donation form for any and all donors to complete.

Thanks, and we hope to hike with you this weekend!

Sincerely,

Charlie Orchard, Alexandra Babiarz, and Lindsay Rapkin
