Dear Friends of Reading to Kids,

Happy New Year! Start your 2015 with "Mysteries & Adventure" at our reading clubs this Saturday. Currently, all volunteer spots are full, but we encourage you to check again today and tomorrow for openings.

If you are signed up but can't attend after all, please click here to cancel before 3:00 p.m. tomorrow to give someone else an opportunity to read!

This month we're excited to be giving away a refurbished computer to one lucky student at each of our seven partner schools! Thank you to all who donated computers to us.

READING TO KIDS GOES HIKING

Hike to the Hollywood Sign and see the Bat Cave with fellow volunteers on Saturday, January 17.

Drive beyond 2633 Canyon Dr., Los Angeles, CA - we will be meeting at the parking lots at the end of the road at 10:00 a.m.

The hike is moderate, so bring your friends, both furry and human! You can RSVP and see who else is going on our Facebook event or Meetup event.

ANNUAL FUND DRIVE SUCCESS

As our final wrap-up to the 2014 Annual Fund Drive, we wanted to thank all of our 547 donors for helping us raise $51,639! We still expect a few more checks in the mail, so we may top $52,000!

Our very special thanks go out to our eight fundraising Angels, Taskforce members Matthew Jones (16 donors, $2,433) and Mark May (10 donors, $3,695), as well as volunteers Heather Miller (26 donors, $225), Bernice Hernandez (14 donors, $159), Samantha Zyck (11 donors, $115), Jenika Katz (8 donors, $124), Rebecca Aldana (6 donors, $74), and Cecilia Nguyen (5 donors, $35). Together they raised $6,860 from 96 donors!

School Competition Winners!

Highest overall percentage of volunteers who donated to the Annual Fund Drive:
1st: Charles White Elementary
2nd: Politi Elementary (barely 1% behind Charles White, with Esperanza just 1% behind Politi)

Highest overall dollar amount raised for the Annual Fund Drive:
1st: Esperanza Elementary
2nd: Alta Loma Elementary

All of the schools together raised $22,051!

Finally, we extend our sincere thanks to all of the AFD Speakers and credit card swipers who helped raise these much-needed funds over the last three reading clubs!

MUSICIANS WANTED

We are looking for musicians to perform at each of our seven partner schools at our March 14th reading clubs. In the past we've had everything from Korean drum troupes to electric violin players to marching bands!

If you or someone you know is interested in sharing the gift of music with our students and volunteers, email us at info@readingtokids.org.
