Our September 13th "Back to School Fun" reading clubs are just over two weeks away, and YOU can help to
find more 199 more readers.
Here are 5 easy things you can do right now to help!
- If you haven't already, please visit our
website now and sign up.
-
"Join" our
September 13th Facebook Event to let your friends know the fun you'll be up to that morning!
-
Post on your
Twitter/Facebook/Instagram/ etc. that
we need more volunteers. I've provided a sample post below, but in whatever you post please be sure to include the following two things:
- The reading clubs are the morning of September 13th near
downtown LA
- Volunteers must sign up online at
www.readingtokids.org
Sample Post:
A really great organization I volunteer with, Reading to Kids, is looking for more volunteers for their September 13th reading clubs. It's my favorite volunteer opportunity in LA, and I hope you can join me. It's a fun filled morning of reading to elementary school kids near downtown LA. If you want to join me I'll be at ### Elementary School. Sign up online at www.readingtokids.org.
If you have people in mind who you think would really like to read with us, tag them in your post. It will alert them to the reading clubs and show up in their friends' news feeds.
-
Use our handy
email template (in PDF) to encourage people you know to sign up to read with us!
-
Print out this flyer and post it somewhere others will see it. Make it a personal and fun social event by including the school at which you'll be reading!
Let's all work together to make 1,200 kids happy on Sept. 13th! We'll be giving away school supplies to them, too!
If you're signed up but know you can't make it to the September
13th reading clubs, please be sure to cancel your RSVP as soon as you can.
The school year is back in swing, and over these next
4 weeks we'll have several
opportunities to publicize Reading to Kids at our
partner schools. To do that, we need your
help as a
Reading to Kids Ambassador.
Here are the remaining events for which we need Ambassadors:
Tuesday, 9/2 from 2:30-4:30pm: White Back-to-School
Friday, 9/5 at 7am: Politi teacher breakfast delivery and set-up
Tuesday, 9/16 from 2:30-4:00pm: MacArthur Park
(near White) Back-to-School
The week of September 8th leads up to the 9/13 reading clubs, and we can use your help to do the following at each school
that week:
- Put up the banner
- Distribute teacher welcome letters
- Distribute Classroom Sign-In Posters
- Conduct quick classroom walk-throughs to encourage kids to come to the reading clubs that Saturday
We'll supply everything you need for any of the above. Although it's great if you can speak
Spanish (even a little), all of our parent materials are
bilingual, and there's always someone who can translate for you
at the school.
These events set the course for the rest of the year and are
a wonderful way to interact with the kids and their parents, as
well as to honor the teachers. The more we publicize at
the beginning of the school year, the more children and families
we'll serve all year.
Please email us at inforeadingtokids.org or call the office if you want to
know more about being an Ambassador for any of the above events.
