Dear Friends of Reading to Kids,

Get ready to seek out fun at the "Discovery and Adventure" Reading Clubs this Saturday! If you haven't already, sign-up for one of the very few remaining volunteer spots.

If you're signed up but can't make this journey after all, please click here to cancel before 3pm on Friday so that someone else may take your place.

We're also excited to be giving away a computer to one lucky kid at each of our seven partner schools! We extend a special thank you to all of our computer donors.

WE'RE ON THE HUNT FOR PRIZES!

We've started planning this year's fundraising events, and we need your help gathering prizes!

Our events are more fun and raise more money if we have great prizes to award, raffle, and/or auction. Big prizes. Little prizes. Serious prizes. Silly prizes. We need them all! Check out our list of prizes from last year's Silent Auction for ideas.

If you have any prizes, or you know where to get them, let us know! The fun starts with our annual Legendary Bingo night (date still to be determined), and we'd love to have something fabulous for the grand prize winner -- anything unique or with an autograph is always welcome!

To help you get started, click these links for tips on how to best approach a business or person to donate to our events, and a donation form for the donor to complete.

In the past we have had gift certificates, products, services, and tickets to fun events. If you work at or have a connection with a restaurant, retail store, or for a company with products or services to offer, please help us by asking for a donation to our events.

Please also let us know to whom you reach out so we don't accidentally duplicate Special Events Committee efforts in contacting businesses.

ANNUAL FUND DRIVE SUCCESS: THANK YOU!

As my final wrap-up to the 2013 Annual Fund Drive, I wanted to thank all of our 479 donors for helping us raise $41,964! We still have a checks arriving in the mail, so I expect we will top $42,000 any day now!

Our very special thanks go out to our two fundraising Angels, Taskforce members Mark May (11 Donors, $3,429) and Matthew Jones (32 Donors, $2,890)!

School Competition Winners!

The school that had the largest percentage of their volunteers donate during the Annual Fund Drive is Alta Loma Elementary! Coming in a close second is Los Angeles Elementary.

The school that raised the highest dollar amount during the Annual Fund Drive is Esperanza Elementary, including Matthew Jones' and Mark May's gathered donations! Los Angeles came in second place, with the other schools each only a few hundred dollars behind.

Finally, my sincere thanks to all of the AFD Speakers and credit card swipers who helped raise these much-needed funds over the last three reading clubs! Together we are changing the lives of thousands of children one book at a time!

THANK YOU CROSSWORDS LA

The final tally is in and Crosswords LA raised $2,000 for Reading to Kids! We extend a big thank you to Elissa Grossman, the event's organizer, for her continuing support of Reading to Kids. For the latest with Crosswords LA, check out their Facebook page.

Our thanks also go out to the Reading to Kids volunteers who helped out on the day of the event, Oct. 26th. We all had a fantastic time at the tournament and are already looking forward to another great Crosswords LA tournament later this year!

MUSICIANS WANTED!

Every March, musicians visit each school and perform for the kids. We have had a variety of performers from country singers to Korean drumming troupes to marching bands and electric violin players!

If you or someone you know would like to share the gift of music with the kids and volunteers, please email us at inforeadingtokids.org.

Thanks, and we'll see you on Saturday!

Sincerely,

Charlie Orchard, Hannah Edwards, and Sarah Parga
