Dear Friends of Reading to Kids,
We hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiv-ukkah! We at Reading to Kids have been as busy as house elves preparing for the always exciting
December 14th Reading Clubs!
Santa is coming, so we expect these reading clubs to be huge! The Santa suits will once again be generously provided by the Pasadena Jaycee's
Operation Santa. If you are interested in volunteering for this wonderful project, please
click here to sign up with them.
If you
have signed up and can't make it,
please cancel to make room for another volunteer.
Within the next eight days we need your help to recruit 183 more volunteers to read aloud to an expected 1,200 plus kids eager to hear a story and see Santa on
December 14th!
Here are 5 easy things you can do
right now to help recruit!
- If you haven't already, please visit our
website now and sign up.
-
"Join" our
Facebook event to let your friends know the holiday spirit you'll be bringing on the 14th!
-
Post on your
Twitter/Facebook/Instagram/ etc. that
we need more volunteers. I've provided a sample post below, but in whatever you post please be sure to include the following two things:
- The reading clubs are this Saturday morning, December 14th, near downtown LA
- Volunteers must sign up online at
www.readingtokids.org
Sample Post:
"Santa + reading to excited kids + holiday spirit = the best way to spend your Saturday morning! My favorite volunteer organization, Reading to Kids, is looking for more volunteers for their December 14th reading clubs. The theme is "The Spirit of Giving", and the kids are eager to see Santa when he visits the reading clubs that day.
Join me at ###
Elementary School for a fun, heartwarming morning of reading to elementary school kids near downtown LA. To join me, sign up online
today at www.readingtokids.org."
If you have people in mind who you think would really like to read with us, tag them in your post. It will alert them to the reading clubs and show up in their friends' news feeds.
-
Use our super-handy
email template (in PDF) to encourage people you know to sign up to read with us!
-
Print out this flyer and post it somewhere others will see it. Make it a personal and fun social event by including the school at which you'll be reading!

ANNUAL FUND DRIVE ENTERS ITS FINAL MONTH
We are currently running short of our
2013 Annual Fund Drive goals. We need your help to reach our goal of raising $45,000 this year. So far we have raised $15,021 from 246 donors!
Do you wonder what the money you contribute goes towards?
•$5 can purchase prize books for 4 kids!
•$20 can purchase 15 take-home prize books for participating kids!
•$50 can purchase 4 hardcover read-aloud books that are donated to school libraries!
•$400 can purchase a month's worth of read-aloud books at one school!
Please donate online or make a pledge to donate by check today by visiting our
2013 Annual Fund Drive page. Contributions of
any amount are greatly appreciated!
We also need your help to reach our other goal of 1,000 donors. If every person who is currently signed up for the December 14th Reading Clubs gathered and brought donations of any size from just 3 people, we would surpass this goal by 539 people!
Consider asking coworkers, family, teammates, bowling buddies... you get the picture! We've made it super simple, just print out this donor sheet and start asking,
or spend just a few minutes personalizing and sending this
sample email!
Once they know about Reading to Kids, many probably want to donate to us -
we just need you to ask!
Also, if your workplace matches donations to nonprofits, please share with them your donation, and ask them to consider matching it. In this way you
double your donation and share with others your enthusiasm for Reading to Kids!

THANK YOU NORTHROP GRUMMAN AND VOLUNTEER JANET WEBB
We thank Northrop Grumman for their recent $5,000 donation in honor of long-time Esperanza
Elementary volunteer Janet Webb! Janet earned for us this Northrop Grumman
2013 Excellence in Volunteerism award for her commitment and service to the children we serve.
Janet's dedication and her employer's financial support help us continue our efforts to enrich the lives of thousands of young readers throughout Los Angeles.
Perhaps
your employer has a similar way of honoring your service with
Reading to Kids.
If so, please contact us and we'll help you apply!

Thank you for your help, and happy recruiting!
