Dear Friends of Reading to Kids,

Thanks to the 1,355 kids, 493 volunteers, 225 parents, and 33 teachers & staff who attended our October reading clubs, this past Saturday was our largest reading club weekend in four years!

We would especially like to thank the seven magnificent magicians who brought "magic" to the reading clubs!  They donated their talents last Saturday, so please consider contacting them for your next celebration.

Our November reading clubs promise to be chock full of "Sports, Fun, and Games!"  We'll also be celebrating college spirit, so dig out your college sweatshirt or hat and wear your colors with pride. We always look forward to seeing which college brings the most spirit. If you would like to organize a group from your university or alumni organization, please e-mail us at info@readingtokids.org or call (310) 479-7455.

Sign up now to ensure your spot by clicking here to RSVP.  We expect a lot of new volunteers in November, so please sign up early! Then help spread the word by also joining our November 9th Facebook Event.

CROSSWORDS LA TOURNAMENT NEEDS VOLUNTEERS SAT., OCT. 26

Want to help out Reading to Kids an additional Saturday this month? Crossword puzzle lovers from everywhere will be converging at the Crosswords LA tournament on Saturday, October 26 – with proceeds benefiting Reading to Kids!

This year the tournament will be held at Santa Monica Place, near the Santa Monica Pier, and Crosswords LA needs our volunteers to help! They need volunteers to set up portions of the event, greet and sign in contestants, and collect puzzle papers.

This tournament raises money for Reading to Kids, so if you can volunteer with them for either the full day or a half day, please email us today at info@readingtokids.org. Full day volunteers (8:30am – 4:45pm) get a free lunch and a t-shirt! Let's show our volunteer spirit by supporting their efforts to help us!

COLLEGE GIVE-AWAY ITEMS NEEDED

At the "Sports, Fun, and Games" reading clubs we celebrate College Spirit Day, which includes encouraging all of you to wear clothing with your college's logo.

At the November 9th Reading Clubs we want to give each child who attends something small with a college insignia on it.

If you can obtain college-related items, stickers are always a hit with the younger kids. For the older kids we like to give them pins/buttons, pens, pencils, notebooks, etc. But really, anything with a college logo will help plant the seeds of college interest.

If you work at or have a connection with a college, please help us by asking for a donation of items with that college's insignia. If you like, you can click this link for a request letter/email you can send. Great sources of items with your college's logo are the athletic department and the bookstore!

To "sponsor" one grade at one school, we need about 40 of one item. To sponsor all of one grade at all 7 schools, then we need about 225 of one item. And anything in between would be very helpful!
