Weekly Update
December 4, 2009

Dear Friends of Reading to Kids,

The December Reading Clubs are in just one week, and we still need 330 volunteers to attend one of our most anticipated months ever, "Winter Wonderlands!"

Edna the penguin knows only the three colors that surround her: white ice, black night, and blue sea. She is convinced there is something more out there. So, she sets out on a quest...a quest for color.

Will Edna find what she is looking for? You can find out by signing up to be a reader at the December Reading Clubs. We know the kids will love hearing all about Edna's adventures in A Penguin Story by Antoinette Portis, and so will you!

To see a list of all the books we will be reading and the crafts we will be creating this month, view This Month's Books online.

SIGN UP for the December "Winter Wonderlands" Reading Clubs today!

DECEMBER PARENT TRAINING WISH LIST

The December Reading Clubs are all about celebrating the holiday season with our kids. And we plan to get the parents involved too! We are holding a creative workshop teaching them how to use simple inexpensive household items to create holiday decorations and gifts. The arts are a great way to spend time with your children, have fun, and of course, practice communication skills too.

In order to make this workshop exciting, we need your help. Take a look at our Wish List below and please, before your trip to the recycling bin, or while rummaging through your pantry, consider bringing these items to the Reading to Kids office. If you have any questions, please contact Joby Mahto at Joby.Mahto @ readingtokids.org.  Thank you!

GIFT A BOOK THIS HOLIDAY SEASON

Books make great gifts for everyone on your holiday list and Reading to Kids has two great opportunities for you to shop for books and support our cause.

Barnes & Noble Encino - This year's book drive at the popular book seller is off to a great start! Customers are encouraged to buy children's books at the register which are then donated to us as prize books for our kids. It is a wonderful way to give back this holiday season while you shop for loved ones.

WOWIO - Reading to Kids is a partner in WOWIO's exciting "Gifting for a Cause" Program. Send an eBook, such as The Velveteen Rabbit or A Christmas Carol, with a customized Reading to Kids' digital dust jacket, add $1 to support your favorite cause, and spread holiday cheer!

Thank you to our wonderful friends at Barnes & Noble Encino and WOWIO for your generosity. And thank YOU for continuing to share your love of reading and Reading to Kids this holiday season.
