Dear Friends of Reading to Kids,

This past Saturday, 538 volunteers each gave three hours of their time to read to a whopping 1,569 kids, making the December reading clubs our best attended event in Reading to Kids history You can check out pictures from the reading clubs on our blog: http://readingtokids.blogspot.com/

OPERATION SANTA VOLUNTEERS NEEDED DECEMBER 24th!

Calling All Santas and Santa's Helpers!

Operation Santa, a project of the Pasadena Jaycees, brings some Christmas cheer to over 3,500 kids in the Pasadena area by sending volunteers dressed as Santa and Mrs. Claus to deliver toys on Christmas Eve.  Volunteers sort toys for children on your route, pack a car full of toys, and deliver them to kids throughout Pasadena and surrounding communities. Each Santa averages about 30 houses.  Toys and wardrobe are provided. No experience necessary! 


DATE: Wednesday, December 24th
TIME:  9:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m. (Varied Shifts)
LOCATION: Scottish Rite Temple
                  150 North Madison Avenue
                  Pasadena, CA

Through December 2008: 

1,586 people are current volunteers of Reading to Kids (volunteered at least once within the last six months) 

7,370 people are current subscribers to our email update list.

Since May 1999...

9,200 people have volunteered as readers with Reading to Kids; 
11,869 hardcover books have been donated to the schools' libraries;
68,088 books have been given directly to participating children for their home libraries; and volunteers have spent 74,946 hours volunteering at the reading clubs (for a "dollar value" of $1,365,074).
