Dear Friends of Reading to Kids,
Sign up to volunteer for Read Across America!
The National Education Association's Read Across America is an annual celebration of literacy that calls for every child in every community to celebrate reading in honor of Dr. Seuss's birthday.
Politi Elementary School will be celebrating Read Across America Day next week and they need your help! They are looking for volunteers to spend a couple of hours reading aloud to students.
The event will be held on Friday, March 2nd, during their after-school program, from 3:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. To sign up to volunteer, please contact Lourdes Manriquez, Politi's LA's BEST Coordinator, at (213) 480-1244 ext. 219.
Humphreys Elementary School is also celebrating Read Across America Day on March 2nd. Maricela Sanchez-Robles, the principal at Humphreys, was one of the administrators at Gratts Elementary in 1999 when the reading clubs first began. Maricela was instrumental in the early development of the reading clubs at Gratts. And when she became an assistant principal at Magnolia, she was the reason for our expansion there. As a thank you, we encourage you to also consider volunteering at Humphreys for Read Across America!
Their event will take place during school hours (8:15 a.m. to 2:15 p.m.). If you would like to volunteer at Humphreys, please contact Lupe Carrandi, Humphrey's Literacy Coach, at (323) 263-6958.
Humphreys is located just east of downtown Los Angeles (500 S. Humphreys Ave., Los Angeles, CA 90022).
