Weekly News Update
December 20, 2006

Dear Friends of Reading to Kids,

Since November 1st, Barnes & Noble Encino (16461 Ventura Blvd., Encino, CA 91436, 818-380-1636) has been encouraging shoppers to add a children's book to their purchase to donate to Reading to Kids!  Since the holiday promotion started, they have collected over 1,100 books and recruited many volunteers!

The Holiday Book Drive will continue until December 31st, so stop by to check out the Reading to Kids display if you are in the area, and make sure to say thanks!

 THANKS TO OUR HOLIDAY HELPERS!

Reading to Kids gives special thanks to our holiday helpers at the December reading clubs!

Thanks to our Santas who brought extra smiles to the reading clubs with their visits!  Thank you to Bob Morehouse (Esperanza), Jerry Tung (Gratts), Andrew Gausepohl (Hoover), Wing Fung (Magnolia), and Reed Harris (Politi)!  Also, thank you to Paula Kurilich, Juan Reyes, Wing Fung, Palace Costume Co., and Western Costume Co. for the use of their Santa costumes!

In addition to those who helped as Santa, we also had many elves who secured donations for our holiday raffles!  Thank you to Kathryn Bingham, Sarah Boyd, Liena McCord, and Ali Oktay for their computer donations.  Thank you also to Ladonynia Adams who worked hard to recruit donations to buy other raffle items for the children. The children and their families truly appreciated the gifts!

Finally, thank you to those musicians who helped bring holiday spirit by leading holiday sing-alongs!  Thank you to Manny Delacruz, the UCLA MEDleys, Alice and Julia Song, and Samir Randeria for sharing your musical talent at the December reading clubs!
