A Letter from Esperanza Elementary
Dear Reading to Kids Volunteers,
Esperanza families need your help. On Sunday, June 6th, a fire consumed an apartment building at 720 S. Westlake Avenue. (For information about the fire, please see the Los Angeles Times article here.)
Eleven Esperanza families lived in the building and are now without a home. Several of the families are staying at a temporary shelter set up by the American Red Cross. Although no one was seriously hurt, families are in need of basics, such as: clothing for adults and children, bedding (blankets, sheets, etc.), household items, and cash donations.
Any and all donations for the victims of the fire will be accepted at the following American Red Cross:
2700 Wilshire Blvd.
Los Angeles, CA 90017
(located on the corner of Wilshire and Rampart)
We at Esperanza Elementary thank you for all your help and support to our students and their families during this time of need.
If you have any questions, please call our office at (213) 484-0326.
Sincerely,
Felicia Michell, Principal
Paula Kurilich, Assistant Principal
Juan M. Gonzalez, Assistant Principal, EIS
Esperanza Elementary School
P.S. Note from Mary: If you are volunteering this weekend and you would like to bring any of the requested items to the school at which you are volunteering, please give it to one of our Site Coordinators and we will ensure that it is delivered to the Red Cross referenced above.
