If Gratts is your favorite school, please come to the Gratts Reading Clubs
and then join teachers, kids, administrators, and volunteers for cake, a giant raffle, and old friends -- we'd love to
see you there. And, as always, if you'd like to bring a raffle prize, you are
welcome to do so.

 "Celebrations" in June!
This month, our books are on the theme of
"Celebrations" -- and what celebrations mean more to a child than
birthdays? We've got an excellent selection of books on b-days.
this month's picks!
A personal favorite of mine is our First Grade selection,
A Birthday
for Frances by Russell Hoban. Frances, a now-famous little badger with a
penchant for singing, has conflicting feelings about her sister Gloria's second
birthday. Every child will identify with Frances as she wavers between being
generous and being jealous. Enjoy!
Kevin Henkes' excellent book
The
Birthday Room is our Fifth Grade story. Our nine-fingered protagonist Ben
has just turned twelve and his birthday comes with a big surprise: a letter from
his long-lost uncle Ian (who is responsible for the missing finger). Set in the
country, this tale of family reconciliation may resonate particularly well with
boys.
And, Seuss is here again!
Happy Birthday to You is our Second Grade book, and you'll undoubtedly enjoy
the flight of the Great Birthday Bird, who is "most beautifully brained -- with
the brainiest bird-brain that's ever been trained." The "BB" outdoes himself in
celebration of a child's birthday. A really, really fun book.

I hope you will join us in June for these Celebrations!
