Read Across America!
Each year, schools across the country welcome volunteers and community leaders to their campuses for Read Across America Day, a celebration of literacy sponsored by the National Education Association (NEA) in honor of Dr. Seuss' birthday.
To find out more about Read Across America please click here to visit the NEA's website. Usually, volunteers spend an hour or two at a participating school reading aloud to one or more classrooms of kids. Last year, Read Across America Day was a big hit with R2K fans, some of whom brought their own favorite books to the schools to read!
This year, two of our schools -- Magnolia and Esperanza -- are holding Read Across America events. Esperanza's event will be on March 2nd from 8:30-11:30 a.m. To sign up to volunteer, please contact Juan Gonzalez at Esperanza at (213) 484-0326.
Magnolia's event will be on March 4th from 8:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. To sign up please contact Marcela Ramirez at (213) 748-6281.

A Reading to Kids volunteer, Estela Bueno, will be helping to organize the 2005 Los Angeles Regional Science Bowl Competition this Saturday. Volunteers are needed from 12:00-5:00 p.m at LADWP?s John Ferraro Building in Downtown L.A.
Hundreds of students from over 30 LAUSD high schools will be there. To register as a volunteer, contact Estela Bueno, at Estela.Bueno@ladwp.com or at (213) 367-0400. To find out more about the Science bowl go to www.ladwp.com and click on the ?Community and Safety? area.
