Record Volunteer Turnout at November Reading Clubs!!!
A new Reading to Kids record for volunteer attendance was set on November 9
as 64 "veteran" volunteers and 78 new volunteers (for a total of 142!!!) attended
the reading clubs held at Gratts Elementary and Esperanza Elementary. Volunteer
RSVP's were so strong that volunteer capacity was reached on the Thursday before
the reading clubs! Making particularly strong showings at the reading clubs were
college groups from UCLA (Bruin Belles and Bruin Corps), USC (Circle K International,
Alpha Phi Omega, Blue Key Service Fraternity, and Mortar Board), and Cal State Dominguez
Hills (Sigma Lambda Beta and Circle K International). The great volunteer turnout makes
the goal of expanding to a third elementary school in the near future very promising!!!
The numerous volunteer readers were joined by administrators and teachers at
Gratts and Esperanza in making the November reading clubs enjoyable and educational
for the children. Special Thanksgiving themed books were read and arts and crafts projects
were done that fit in with the theme. Look for a special holiday theme in December!!!
