Literacy Coordinator Position Available
Reading to Kids is seeking a full-time AmeriCorps VISTA Volunteer Corps Member
Literacy Coordinator. Be a part of an organization that has been making a

Position Summary: The AmeriCorps VISTA
Volunteer Corps Member will assist Reading to Kids in its
mission of inspiring underserved children with a love of reading,
thereby enriching their lives and opportunities for future success.
Reporting to the Managing Director, the VISTA Member will work directly
with volunteers and educators to ensure a satisfying volunteer/student
experience. The VISTA Member will gain insight into the issues that
affect LAUSD schools, students and families today, and learn about
educational policy.

Position
Responsibilities:

• Organize
each month's reading clubs |
|
• Provide
ongoing support to approximately 280 volunteers with phone calls, emails
and educational resources |
|
•
Coordinate volunteer/student matches with 8 LAUSD partner schools |
|
• Network
in the local community to expand volunteer outreach and engagement |
|
• Help to
plan and organize volunteer appreciation and enrichment events |
|
• Conduct
school site visits to help strengthen partnerships and address issues,
with Managing Director |
|
• Maintain
database of volunteer and school information |
|
•
Contribute to the
Reading to Kids blog and weekly update emails |
|
• Assist
site operations teams at the monthly reading clubs, which occur on the
second Saturday of each month |
|
•
Participate as an active member of the
Reading to Kids Taskforce |
|
•
Participate in Board and Taskforce meetings and involvement with
Taskforce committees as a facilitator and coordinator |
|
•
Participate in fundraising and in-kind donations through the
establishment of business partnerships |
|
• Attend
monthly meetings and trainings at L.A. Works |
|
• Serve as
a Project Leader at L.A. Works special days of service |
Additional Responsibilities Will Include:

• Manage
Reading to Kids Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Pinterest
accounts |
|
• Update
Reading to Kids website |
Skills/Qualifications:
|
•
Required:
Minimum B.A. or B.S. degree; outstanding organizational and
communication skills; exceptional ability to work well with others;
strong writing skills; must be at least 18 years of age and a U.S.
citizen, national, or legal permanent resident alien of the U.S.;
possess a valid CA state driver's license and access to a car; available for some evening
and weekend commitments; proficient with Microsoft Office Suite |

Preferred: Interest in education issues; commitment to
children |
Stipend
Biweekly allowance of $1,120.00 pre-tax plus $6,345 Segal AmeriCorps Education Award or $1,800 in cash upon successful
completion of term; AmeriCorps VISTA healthcare benefit; childcare assistance if
eligible; relocation allowance if eligible
