Reading to Kids Named as a Fluor Global Community Project Fund Winner

Monday, October 6, 2014 Los Angeles, Calif. Reading to Kids was selected by Fluor Corporation as one of 10 community projects to receive $10,000 as part of Fluor Corporation’s Global Community Project Fund.

Reading to Kids will use these funds and volunteer support from Fluor employees to offer special STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) themed reading clubs at seven Downtown Los Angeles elementary schools this November.

"People sometimes forget a crucial fact that reading is at the core of STEM education," says Jinhwa Chun, Reading to Kids volunteer and Fluor employee. "No matter what children want to be - journalists, lawyers, doctors, artists, etc. - reading habits formed at a young age will guide them wherever they go."

'The Wonders of Science and Technology' reading club, Reading to Kids' name for their STEM inspired club on November 8th, will bring children together with Fluor volunteers who will read to them and also take time out to discuss the importance of science and technology-based fields of study, and the significance of reading within those fields.
