Second Annual "College Spirit Day" at November Reading Clubs

Last year, the Bruins dominated our first-ever College Spirit Day competition with 65 UCLA-loving volunteers in attendance! November is college football rivalry month, and in the spirit of healthy rivalries (including the big one between UCLA and USC), the theme of the November reading clubs will be "College Spirit Day."

Students and alumni are encouraged to wear their school's (or their favorite school's) t-shirts or sweatshirts. The school represented by the most volunteers will be crowned the grand champion of the 2004 Reading to Kids college face-off and earn bragging rights for the year. But most importantly, the kids will see the volunteers' school pride and the value of a college education.

For most of the kids who attend the reading clubs, if they go to college, they will be the first in their families to do so. According to the teachers and administrators at the schools, the kids who begin thinking about college early on are more likely to end up there. Exposure to college students and college alumni is a great way to get the kids thinking about their academic futures. So, show your school pride and make a positive impact that may last a lifetime!
