Environmental Theme a Big Hit at April 8 Reading Clubs!!!
April's theme of "the environment" was a tremendous success
at the April 8 Reading Clubs. Over 350 children at Gratts Elementary School
and Esperanza Elementary were treated to stories of waterfalls, wilderness,
mountains, fields, and oceans. The arts and crafts on environmental themes
were extremely popular with the children who used crayons, markers,
watercolors, and construction paper to generate some truly amazing artwork.
At the end of the day, children at both Gratts and Esperanza had an opportunity
to show their completed arts and crafts to an applauding audience of volunteers,
teachers and administrators.
A record number of outside organizations were there to
help provide volunteer support at the April reading clubs. Volunteers from
Doing Something, Loyola Marymount University, the Penn Alumni Association,
UCLA Bruin Belles, LA Works, Cal State Dominguez Hills' Sigma Lambda Beta,
Boston Consulting Group, and GE/NBC/Elfun were on hand to lend their support
as volunteer readers. The tremendous support of outside organizations in
April continues the spectacular growth in outside support that Reading to Kids
has enjoyed. The future is very bright indeed for promoting the goal of
encouraging children to read!!!
