Synopsis: Dr. Rhinehart, a scientist, is lost when his plane crashes in the Everglades. His young daughter, desperate to know what has happened to him, unpacks her Guatemalan trouble dolls. The four tiny figures come alive on her pillow and offer to guide her to her father.

Craft ideas:

  • Make a set of trouble dolls for putting under your pillow. (Bringing ahead? Clothespins for the bodies!)
  • Write a newspaper story about the adventure as if Lizzy had told the reporters about the trouble dolls, with pictures.

*Note: These craft ideas are just suggestions. You can use them, but you don’t have to use them. You can expand upon them, or add your own twist. Remember, though, that the focus of your time should not be on the development and execution of a craft; the focus should be on the read-aloud and the enjoyment of the book!
