Today I Feel Silly: And Other Moods That Make My Day

Last updated Thursday, July 3, 2003

Author: Jamie Lee Curtis
Illustrator: Laura Cornell
Date of Publication: 1998
ISBN: 0060245603
Grade Level: Kindergarten
Date(s) Used: July 2003

Synopsis:Follow a little girl with curly red hair through 13 different moods, beginning with silly: "Today I feel silly. / Mom says it's the heat. I put rouge on the cat / and gloves on my feet." Of course, silly soon turns to grumpy and mean... to excited... to confused, and so on.

Craft ideas:

  • Make a feeling meter for yourself (Volunteers who want to bring craft parts ahead of time - bring a paper joiner of some sort to hold pieces of paper together as they twirl around the center).
  • Make masks of different feeling faces.
  • Make Star costumes, with hat and glasses.

*Note: These craft ideas are just suggestions. You can use them, but you don’t have to use them. You can expand upon them, or add your own twist. Remember, though, that the focus of your time should not be on the development and execution of a craft; the focus should be on the read-aloud and the enjoyment of the book!
