Synopsis: (from the publisher) With paintings that capture all the beauty of Appalachia in authentic detail, this tender story about a resourceful mountain girl's special coat will touch readers with its affirming message of love and friendship.

Craft ideas:

  • Make a patchwork quilt from construction paper, and write a story on each "scrap" from your family and friends.
  • Cut out paper and design a rag bookmark.
  • If you had to pick a piece of cloth for the coat from your belongings, what would it be? Draw/ write the story of the cloth.

*Note: These craft ideas are just suggestions. You can use them, but you don’t have to use them. You can expand upon them, or add your own twist. Remember, though, that the focus of your time should not be on the development and execution of a craft; the focus should be on the read-aloud and the enjoyment of the book!
