Synopsis: A greedy individual, the cantankerous Once-ler, thoughtlessly pollutes the air, land, and water of the Bar-ba-loots' paradise, Truffula Forest, in order to build his giant industry.

Craft ideas:

• In the center of a piece of paper, have the children write "unless..." as in the book. Unless what? Discuss cause and effect--unless they do what, what will happen to the environment? They can draw out the answers, or write them around the word.
• Create simple costumes, and act out the book, or take turns acting it out.
• For the adventurous, bring seeds to plant in dixie cups.
