Synopsis: (from the publisher) Saturdays and Sundays are very special days for the child in this story. On Saturdays, she visits Grandma and Grandpa, who come from a European-American background, and on Sundays--los domingos--she visits Abuelito y Abuelita, who are Mexican-American. While the two sets of grandparents are different in many ways, they also have a great deal in common--in particular, their love for their granddaughter.

Craft ideas:

  • Make a card for one of your grandparents. On it, draw your favorite thing to do with your grandparents.
  • Divide a page in two: Draw pictures of what you think your grandparents looked like when they were young, and what the differences and similarities between them are.

*Note: These craft ideas are just suggestions. You can use them, but you don’t have to use them. You can expand upon them, or add your own twist. Remember, though, that the focus of your time should not be on the development and execution of a craft; the focus should be on the read-aloud and the enjoyment of the book!
