Synopsis: Anyone can pour juice, bake a cake, and kiss away hurts—right? But maybe—just maybe—it’s not so easy when you are very small! Daddy pours juice without even thinking about it, Grandma bakes a cake effortlessly, and the next-door neighbor rides a bike as if he were born on one!

Tips for reading the book:  This book is a light-hearted, quick and easy read emphasizing independence and self esteem.  A picture walk before reading and a discussion afterward will help you make the most of your time. Take your time, asking plenty of questions and emphasizing vocabulary. 

Discussion topics:

• By yourself, can you: pour juice, get dressed, ride a bicycle, bake a cake, play guitar....? What else can you do that grownups do? How do you feel when that happens?
• Can you do things that younger children can’t? Do you tease them, or encourage them?

Craft ideas:

• Volunteers write “I can do it, too!” on the top of a piece of paper; have children draw underneath those things they can do.
• Draw what you want to be when you grow up.

*Note: These craft ideas are just suggestions. You can use them, but you don’t have to use them. You can expand upon them, or add your own twist. Remember, though, that the focus of your time should not be on the development and execution of a craft; the focus should be on the read-aloud and the enjoyment of the book!
