Author: Paul Galdone
Illustrator: Paul Galdone
Date of Publication: 1979
ISBN: 0395288002
Grade Level: Kindergarten
Date(s) Used: September 2003

Synopsis: Convinced the sky is falling, Henny Penny and a band of gullible friends march off to tell the king, only to meet their end at the hands of a wily fox.

Craft ideas:

  • Make masks or headbands for each character and re-enact the story or have an animal parade.
  • Find a fun word to accompany each child’s name (Lucky Larry, Funny Francesca), and make a bookmark with the name and decorations.
  • Obtain a copy of the book ahead of time and copy the pictures for the children to color.

*Note: These craft ideas are just suggestions. You can use them, but you don’t have to use them. You can expand upon them, or add your own twist. Remember, though, that the focus of your time should not be on the development and execution of a craft; the focus should be on the read-aloud and the enjoyment of the book!
