Clifford's Christmas

ISBN: 0808575880
Grade Level: Kindergarten
Date(s) Used: December 2003

Synopsis: Clifford makes different kinds of snowmen, plays ice hockey differently, and brings home a Christmas tree that is only the right size for him (not the family). On Christmas, Clifford and Santa Claus have some interesting interactions.

Discussion topics for before reading:

  • What did you get for Christmas last year?
  • What are you planning to give for Christmas this year?
  • What do you want for Christmas this year?

Craft ideas:

  • Cut out a stocking and have the children decorate; perhaps rip up pieces of paper so that they can glue together a “quilt” stocking.
  • Make a clifford mask with a santa hat and beard.
  • Make a big Clifford doll by assembling pre-cut parts, and pre-made outfits.

*Note: These craft ideas are just suggestions. You can use them, but you don’t have to use them. You can expand upon them, or add your own twist. Remember, though, that the focus of your time should not be on the development and execution of a craft; the focus should be on the read-aloud and the enjoyment of the book!
