Synopsis: Arthur is certain that this Christmas will be perfect--lots of snow, a beautiful tree, and a delicious turkey dinner. But when it doesn't snow, D.W. decorates half the tree with trolls and unicorns, and Dad decides to make an authentic ancient Christmas dinner, Arthur isn't so sure anymore.

Discussion topics for before reading:
•  What makes your Christmas special?
•  What do you have for dinner on Christmas Eve and Christmas?
•  Has anyone heard of Hanukkah or Kwanzaa? What are they?

Discussion topics for during/after reading:
•  Why is the book called Arthur?s Perfect Christmas when so many things went wrong?
•  Who do you think was right, Muffy or Francie? Why?

Craft ideas:
•  Make an ornament and decorate with your idea of a perfect Christmas.
•  Draw a Christmas tree. Instead of ornaments, draw as many of the events or gifts from the story as you can remember (the person who remembers the most wins).

*Note: These craft ideas are just suggestions. You can use them, but you don’t have to use them. You can expand upon them, or add your own twist. Remember, though, that the focus of your time should not be on the development and execution of a craft; the focus should be on the read-aloud and the enjoyment of the book!
