Last updated Wednesday, April 30, 2003

Author: Nancy L. Carlson
Illustrator: Nancy L. Carlson
Date of Publication: 2002
ISBN: 0670035807
Grade Level: Kindergarten
Date(s) Used: June 2003

Synopsis: The outside world includes terrors as varied as a mean-looking dog, bad news stories, and nighttime shadows, but since "hiding under your covers can get pretty boring," this wide-eyed, appealing child ventures out and discovers that the world isn't as scary as it seems.

Craft ideas:

  • If you hid under the covers what would you miss the most? Draw!
  • Make a button - what are you scared of? How could it be less scary?

*Note: These craft ideas are just suggestions. You can use them, but you don’t have to use them. You can expand upon them, or add your own twist. Remember, though, that the focus of your time should not be on the development and execution of a craft; the focus should be on the read-aloud and the enjoyment of the book!
